Stock wheel spacers on modern off-road bikes, when made of aluminum, are known to wear quickly at the point of contact with the oil seal lip. The groove that forms there defeats the sealing action of the oil seal, resulting in accelerated bearing wear due to water and dirt getting in. PROX wheel spacers, depending on the model, are made entirely of steel, or of black hard-anodized aluminum press-fitted with a steel sleeve positioned at the point of contact with the oil seal lip.
