The 27-year-old from Vigo, Spain, will compete on a factory YZ450FM in the premier class of the FIM Motocross World Championship, alongside five-time FIM Motocross World Champion Tim Gajser.

Official: Rubén Fernández signs with Yamaha for the 2027 MXGP World Championship

Fernández returns to Yamaha with a reputation as a rider of pure speed, demonstrated by his first Grand Prix victory in 2023. Having finished fifth overall in the MXGP World Championship in 2023 and fourth in 2025, he has proven he deserves a place at the top. His aim now is to turn those flashes of brilliance into a season-long title challenge. Below are the rider’s comments.

“I’m excited about the next chapter in my career and the new environment. After spending so many years with the same team, the same people and the same bike, I can’t wait to embrace this change. Everything is new: the people, the bike, the team, and I’m raring to take on this new challenge – it’s really exciting. I feel this change is exactly what I need to progress and take the next step in my career. I can’t wait to get down to work. I’m really looking forward to testing the bike, as I haven’t had the chance to ride it yet. So, it’s something I’m really looking forward to. I’ve raced with Yamaha before; I remember really liking the chassis and its handling. Whilst I know the YZ450F is different from the YZ250F and that the bikes have evolved over the years, I’m confident I can make the most of this opportunity. I hope that, together with the team, we’ll be able to consistently fight for the top positions and that I can demonstrate my full potential."
