However, together with the Red Bull KTM team and the team’s physiotherapist, the 19-year-old has decided that this weekend’s trip to Uddevalla has come too soon and that a return to racing at this stage could cause a setback and lead to further complications. The plan is to continue with the intensive treatment programme and then assess, on a day-to-day basis, Lucas’s ability to return to riding his KTM 450 in the Premier Class. Lucas Coenen:

“Obviously, it’s a real shame for me and the team. It was already tough to miss my home Grand Prix and I was hoping that the extra days would allow me to get back to full fitness for Sweden, but time has run out. I’m still in a bit of pain and another crash could take us back to square one or make the situation even worse. I feel I’m close to being back to full fitness, but not quite there yet.”

Davide De Carli:

“It’s tough for Lucas and his family, but this is an injury that can’t be rushed. You need to be as close to 100 per cent as possible to make an impact in MXGP, and he simply isn’t ready for Sweden. All we can do is continue with the treatment and be patient. In the meantime, we’ll do everything we can to help Sacha in MX2 and hope that both brothers can race together soon, as the GPs are rapidly approaching the end of the season.”
