Max Nagl announces his retirement: the German rider’s career in international motocross comes to an end

His retirement marks the end of an extraordinarily long international career. Nagl made his debut in the MX2 World Championship in 2003 and went on to become one of the undisputed leading figures in international motocross. He spent ten years with KTM, during which time he finished runner-up in the World Championship. He subsequently moved to Honda, where he competed for three seasons, before achieving excellent results in the World Championship with Husqvarna. With Husqvarna, he secured, amongst other things, a fifth and a third place in the championship. One of the highlights of his career came in 2012, when Nagl, alongside Ken Roczen and Marcus Schiffer, won the Motocross of Nations for Germany. This was Germany’s first victory in the history of the competition. In recent years, Nagl had already considered retiring on several occasions. Each time, however, he had decided to carry on for another season. Now, he feels that the time is finally right. Although his competitive career is drawing to a close, Nagl does not want to leave the world of motocross entirely. With over 20 years’ experience at the very highest level, he hopes to pass on his knowledge to a new generation of riders in the future.
