The Italian rider crashed and fractured the collarbone on the same shoulder that has caused him several injuries in the past.

According to Guadagnini, it is the same shoulder that has caused him six or seven injuries in the past. Surgery will be required to repair the damage, meaning he will be sidelined for an indefinite period and is likely to miss most of the season. Below are the rider’s comments.

Mattia Guadagnini: 

“I crashed during a test day and broke the collarbone in my injured shoulder – the same shoulder where I’ve already had six or seven injuries. So the situation is far from ideal and surgery will be needed to sort everything out. On the one hand, it’s obviously very sad because I’ll be out for a while. We still need to establish exactly how long, but it will certainly take some time. I’ll probably miss most of the season. This is finally the time to let it heal properly, to have the operation and to take the time needed to get back to full fitness. I know I can perform at my best when I feel good, can train consistently and build a solid foundation. That’s something I’ve been missing in recent years. It’s difficult to recover from injuries, but given the state of my shoulder, it really was time to tackle them properly and take the time needed to get back to my best.”
