The ninth round of the MXGP championship features twins Lucas and Sacha Coenen, both sporting the red number plate of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, after thrilling the world with their results at the AMA Pro Motocross event at Thunder Valley in Colorado. With both brothers having won in Italy earlier this year, they will be looking to further consolidate their lead in the championship at Montevarchi.

Reigning MX2 World Champion Simon Längenfelder is battling to catch up with Coenen in the standings and will look to capitalise on a series of tracks with compact terrain to close the 37-point gap on the Belgian. Both Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders will need to keep an eye on Spain’s Guillem Farres of the Triumph Factory Racing Team, who is hot on the champion’s heels, just three points behind and third in the overall standings. Local favourite Ferruccio Zanchi is racing on home soil with the Beddini Racing Ducati Factory MX2 Team, although Valerio Lata is currently the highest-placed Italian rider in the standings.
