Sacha Coenen has undergone successful surgery: a return at the British and Mexican GPs is possible

On Monday, Sacha Coenen successfully underwent surgery in the United States to repair the collarbone he fractured during the National race at Southwick last Saturday. The operation was a success and the Belgian rider hopes to compete in this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Foxhill. The 19-year-old Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider put in an outstanding performance at Southwick. Despite a heavy crash in the closing stages of the second race, Coenen got back on his bike and still managed to secure victory. Immediately after crossing the finish line, he said he feared he had fractured his collarbone, a diagnosis later confirmed by medical examinations. On Monday, the MX2 World Championship leader underwent surgery during which a plate was inserted to stabilise his fractured collarbone. The operation went according to plan, keeping alive the possibility of a return to the track very soon. Before he can race at Foxhill, Coenen will need to be cleared by the FIM doctor during Friday’s mandatory medical check-up. Only after receiving medical clearance will he be able to race. Although a return to competition so soon after collarbone surgery is far from common, several riders have managed it in the past. Simon Längenfelder, for example, returned to the track just one week after undergoing a similar operation in 2024 and immediately finished in the top ten at the MXGP in Lugo.
