Will Chad Reed return in 2028? The dream of a private team with Michael Jordan is taking shape

The Australian rider has not ruled out the possibility of bringing the project to fruition with the support of NBA legend Michael Jordan, one of the greatest sporting stars of all time, which would represent a huge boost for the SMX brand. Here are Reed’s comments.

Chad Reed:

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. I love going to races; I’m the retired bloke who misses all that. I don’t miss the racing itself – it’s strange, I thought that when I retired I’d miss the racing more, but instead I miss the routine of packing a bag on Thursdays and heading off to Supercross races. I haven’t seen my family for 25 years; the racing community is my family. I’m not talking specifically about Jordan; (if) Jordan were a partner, I’d be absolutely thrilled and over the moon, but there are several people I’m talking to with the hope and aim of racing with a team in 2028. I’ve read that we’re leasing the factory Hondas… I can assure you I won’t be involved in a team that leases any equipment! We’ll run a top-level racing team and find partners who want to win races and reach the top. If that means having Michael Jordan teaming up with a manufacturer, that’s the aim. I love him, I have a son who adores him and wants to do this, and a family that supports everything to do with racing – we’re already planning for 2028.”
