Following various rumours, confirmation has now arrived that the Coenen twins will be competing in three National races.
Lucas and Sacha, alongside the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team led by Davide De Carli in Europe and the squad captained by Ian Harrison in the United States, have identified the following opportunities: the Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado, on 13 June (between the Latvian and Italian Grand Prix), the Southwick National in Massachusetts on 11 July (between the South Africa and Great Britain Grand Prix), and the Ironman National Finals on 29 August (between the Dutch and Turkish rounds). These potential events constitute the third, fifth and eleventh rounds of the 11-race AMA calendar and depend on the progress of their ambitions for the 2026 MXGP World Championship. The Coenen brothers will compete in the 450MX and 250MX classes, the same ones they currently race in, with their first ‘wildcard’ appearance coming next month at Lakewood, the former venue of the Motocross of Nations. Below are the riders’ comments.
“It’s official: we’re aiming to compete in three rounds of the AMA outdoor championship. It’s a dream to be able to do this whilst staying focused on the season. I can’t wait; I’ll try to enjoy it to the full and it’ll be an amazing experience. I’m also looking forward to meeting lots of fans. I’m really excited.”
“I’m really excited to be taking part in a few races in the US this year. Ever since we were kids, we’ve watched the races there, so it’ll be fantastic to go there and try out those tracks. I’m really grateful to KTM and to everyone who’s made this possible. See you there.”
