MXGP: Further medical checks for Mathis Valin following his crash in Portugal

After securing another holeshot in qualifying, Mathis was leading the race in Portugal when, following a jump, he landed in a hole and fell from his bike. In accordance with the Kawasaki Racing Team’s protocol, he withdrew from the race and was seen on Sunday wearing a neck brace whilst watching and supporting his team-mates in the MXGP class. On medical advice, Mathis will not be taking part in any FIM Motocross World Championship events until he is deemed fit to return to the track, due to a wrist injury and a vertebral compression. The French rider will now rest and recover. He will undergo further tests shortly before assessing, in consultation with the Kawasaki Racing Team, his gradual return to training and, eventually, to racing. Below are the rider’s comments.

Mathis Valin:  

“It’s not exactly what you expect when you’re leading a race, but that’s how it went. I’m not in any pain, but I’ll obviously follow the doctors’ advice and I want to thank the team for their unwavering support.”
