Both former winners from Team Honda HRC Petronas will line up this weekend in the MXGP class, currently sitting second and third in the World Championship, behind Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s talisman, Lucas Coenen. However, the young Belgian holds only a narrow four-point lead over five-time world champion Herlings. ‘The Bullet’ has won eight GPs on French soil, the most recent of which was at this very circuit in 2021, whilst Lucas has claimed just one victory in France in 2024. The MX2 class is in a precarious state, with an even tighter battle at the top, where just three points separate Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders Simon Längenfelder and Sacha Coenen. Coenen secured victory in Trentino before the break, giving his team a boost after missing out on the podium for the first time this season. As for Triumph, we have Guillem Farres in third place, but French spectators will have been thrilled by Mathis Valin’s podium finish in Trentino, and he will be eager to do even better on his Kawasaki in front of his home fans.
