MXGP of Latvia (Kegums Preview)

This year’s MXGP World Championship will be decided between the two top riders from last year’s GP. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team leads the way with its young prodigy Lucas Coenen and, following Jeffrey Herlings’ problems in Germany, the Belgian now holds a 31-point lead over the Dutch rider, who is aiming for his tenth Grand Prix victory on this circuit. Fifty points further back is Romain Febvre, the reigning World Champion with the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, who has yet to win here but is always among the contenders. In the 250cc class, Sacha Coenen will take the Red Jersey to Kegums, holding it for the first time at the start of a race weekend. The title fight is tighter in MX2, where reigning champion Simon Längenfelder is just three points behind the Belgian, but he will need to bear in mind that Sacha has won the last two MX2 GPs on the Latvian circuit. Nineteen points off the lead is Spain’s Guillem Farres of the Triumph Factory Racing Team.
