Results from the penultimate round of the National Championship, with Hunter Lawrence and Chance Hymas winning in their respective classes.

NATIONAL: Round 10 (Budds Creek)

450:

The 450 class produced yet another twist in the championship, this time in Hunter Lawrence’s favour. Haiden Deegan took the holeshot in the first race, but Hunter wasted no time in moving to the front and took the lead as early as the first lap. Jett Lawrence’s race got off to a very different start. He was forced to run wide onto the grass at the start, finding himself in 22nd place on the first lap, with a long chase ahead of him. Whilst Hunter controlled the race from the front, Deegan gave him a run for his money and Jorge Prado moved up to third place. Jett steadily clawed his way back up the field, eventually securing fifth place, but Hunter’s victory narrowed the championship gap from ten to just two points. The second race was a smoother affair for Hunter. Prado got off to a brilliant start, but Hunter overtook him on the inside and took control almost immediately, building a lead before the first lap was even complete. Jett moved into third place and subsequently overtook Prado for second, whilst Deegan moved up to fourth and Mikkel Haarup put in an excellent performance in fifth. No one had an answer for Hunter, who completed a 1-1 hat-trick and completely wiped out his championship deficit. Prado’s consistent 3-3 scores earned him second place overall, Deegan finished third with a 2-4, Jett’s 5-2 placed him fourth and Haarup rounded off the top five with scores of 8-5. Hunter leaves Budds Creek with 442 points and the Red Plate, whilst Jett is just one point behind on 441 heading into the final round.

At Budds Creek, the 250 season was marked by yet another unexpected twist due to rain, mud and penalties. Levi Kitchen started the day one point ahead of Cole Davies, taking the holeshot in the first race, but his lead evaporated almost immediately following a crash that saw him drop to the back of the pack. Chance Hymas took the lead, before Davies overtook him and began to pull away. Kitchen fought his way back up the field, but his race became even more difficult after he was forced to remove his face mask. He eventually crossed the line in tenth place, but a four-place penalty saw him slip to 14th in the standings. Davies won ahead of Hymas and Landen Gordon, consolidating his lead in the Championship ahead of the second race. Hymas came charging out of the gates with the holeshot in the second race, pulling away whilst Davies and Kitchen battled for second and third place. Kitchen managed to find the right gear, caught up with Davies and overtook him for second place, before closing in on Hymas in the final laps. The lapped riders made things difficult for both of them, but Hymas held on and won the race. His scores of 2–1 secured him the overall victory at Budds Creek, whilst Davies finished with 1–3 to take second place. Gordon’s results (3–7) saw him finish third overall, Julien Beaumer recorded 8–4 to take fourth place, whilst Kitchen’s scores (14–2) left him in fifth. The Championship, which was separated by just one point before Budds Creek, now sees Davies leading Kitchen by 14 points, 378 to 364, with only the Ironman final still to be contested next week.
