The AMA found that Jett had breached the code of conduct and imposed the penalty.

NATIONAL: Controversy on the track: Jett Lawrence fined after gesture towards Haiden Deegan

The middle-finger incident took place in Q2, after the two had already clashed in Q1 when Deegan had annoyed Jett by getting in his way and kicking up mud. Despite everything, Deegan has yet to beat Jett in a National race, but he is doing everything he can to achieve it. Below are statements from the AMA and Haiden Deegan.

AMA:

“Race Control reviewed an incident involving rider no. 1 (Lawrence) and rider no. 38 (Deegan) in section 11. Following the review, it was determined that rider no. 1 (Lawrence) breached the code of conduct by making an obscene hand gesture during the competition. Rider no. 1 (Lawrence) has been issued with one licence point and a fine.” 

Haiden Deegan:

“I don’t know, mate, I just asked him if he was OK and he gave me the middle finger! No… I’m sure if they knew what I said they’d probably fine me… I was just  joking! It was good, I like a bit of banter, it gets me going. I mean, you can see  I was giving it my all today; it gives me something to chase, and obviously Jett’s the best.”
