At the age of 33, Tomac has enjoyed a memorable season with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team this year, securing four Main Event victories in the 450SX class of the AMA Supercross Championship on his KTM 450.
Tomac will go down in history as one of the greatest riders of all time, with a professional career spanning 17 seasons between 2010 and 2026. The Cortez, Colorado, native is second on the all-time 450SX wins list with 57 Main Event victories and fourth on the all-time AMA Pro Motocross 450MX wins list with a total of 32. As a two-time AMA Supercross 450SX champion (2020, 2022) and four-time 450MX champion (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022), Tomac has represented Team USA at the prestigious FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) on six occasions, leading the United States to victory at RedBud in 2022. Early in his career, Tomac claimed the 250MX outdoor title in 2013 after securing a total of 12 wins in the class, including his professional debut at the season-opening round at Hangtown in 2010, before making the full-time switch to the premier class in 2014. He also won the 250SX West championship in 2012. Furthermore, Tomac extended his record at the Daytona Supercross with his eighth career victory in 2026, was crowned the 2024 FIM Supercross World Champion in the SX1 class, and was also honoured in 2022 with an ESPY Award in the prestigious Best Male Action Sports Athlete category. The entire Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team expresses its gratitude and best wishes to Eli for the future, and looks forward to successfully concluding the current season together through the upcoming SMX play-offs, which will culminate in the SMX World Championship final in Ridgedale, Missouri, on 26 September. Below are Tomac’s comments.
“At the end of September, after the final three rounds of the SMX championship, I will be retiring from Supercross and motocross. It has been the hardest decision of my career, but I know in my heart that the time is right. I’ve won races and championships I never could have imagined. Racing has been the only thing I’ve known and the reason I’ve woken up every morning for the past 25 years, and I wouldn’t swap it for anything in the world.”
