Honda launches the all-new 2027 CRF450 models.
Developed with direct input from the HRC teams competing at the very top of the sport, the new CRF450R offers more power that is easier to control, superior stability and a better connection with the rider across a wide range of track conditions. From the redesigned intake and exhaust systems to the chassis, suspension and reduced weight, every aspect of the bike has been carefully engineered to give riders a competitive edge, whether they are aiming for championship glory or looking to push their limits on the track. One of the most noticeable changes to the bike is the switch to a new tricolour livery that echoes the look of HRC’s motocross and road racing teams around the world. The red, white and blue colours, together with the large Honda logo, have been designed to unify and strengthen the Honda Racing brand identity, unveiled for the first time by the Official Honda HRC Progressive Team at the opening round of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross season. The bodywork is also new, with updated radiator cowls and side panels. To create a flatter side surface and allow the rider greater freedom of movement, the difference in width between the radiator cover area and the seat area has been reduced. Compared to the previous model, the 2027 bike is 2 mm wider in the radiator guard area and 7 mm wider in the seat area, which improves leg grip and enhances rider control. Honda has also implemented numerous maintenance-focused updates. The shock absorber can now be removed without first dismantling the control unit, and the air filter is accessible via the side panel, eliminating the need for an air filter box cover. The rear brake disc now bolts directly into the hub, allowing it to be removed with a single spanner. The chain guide uses press-fit nuts to facilitate installation and removal, whilst the rear wheel’s side flanges feature a safer, rounded shape to simplify wheel fitting.
For 2027, Honda introduces a completely redesigned engine for the CRF450R, offering increased power, improved control, reduced weight and a slimmer overall profile. The engine is 17 mm narrower at its widest point and weighs 2 kg less than its predecessor, significantly improving handling characteristics. The crankshaft now features a round-profile crankpin instead of the previous anchor-shaped design, increasing rigidity. Both crankshaft main bearings have been changed from ball and roller bearings to roller bearings to reduce deformation under combustion pressure and improve rotational efficiency. The cylinder bore increases by 1 mm to 97.0 mm, maintaining a stroke of 60.8 mm for a total displacement of 450 cc. The intake valves increase by 2 mm to 40 mm, whilst the exhaust valves increase by 1 mm to 32 mm. The updated cam profiles offer greater lift and more aggressive timing, thanks in part to the switch to titanium exhaust valves. The intake port angle is now steeper, the port length shorter, and the air intake shape revised to improve airflow efficiency and optimise the CRF450R’s down-draft intake characteristics.
The chassis of the 2027 CRF450R has been completely revised to improve handling and stability. Honda has focused heavily on reducing front-to-rear pitch during acceleration and braking, whilst improving traction consistency on rough tracks. The suspension modifications aim to improve the damping feel throughout the travel, particularly during the initial phase of movement. Around 70% of the chassis components are new for 2027.
